Preceptor Application

NFDEM values and welcomes the experience of midwives from diverse backgrounds and training pathways. We encourage aspiring midwives to seek learning opportunities with multiple NFDEM-approved preceptors in order to gain broad clinical exposure and deepen their understanding of community-based midwifery care.

NFDEM is currently accepting U.S.-based preceptor applications from the following credentialed midwives who provide out-of-hospital birth services:

• Certified Direct Entry Midwife (CDEM)

• Certified Professional Midwife (CPM)

• Certified Midwife (CM)

• Licensed Midwife (LM)

• Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM)

​NFDEM also welcomes experienced traditional, community-trained, and lineage-trained midwives who do not hold formal midwifery credentials but who demonstrate safe, competent, autonomous midwifery practice.
